  • You could soon pay a monthly subscription to get the latest iPhone.
  • The service isn’t expected to launch until later in 2022 or 2023 and may be cancelled.

Apple is working on a subscription service that would allow users to pay a monthly fee to receive an iPhone, according to Bloomberg.

Instead of purchasing a device upfront, Apple could charge users monthly and provide the latest device as part of that subscription. Customers will be able to subscribe to hardware through their Apple ID, similar to the iCloud+ and Apple One subscriptions.

It remains separate from the iPhone Upgrade Program, which is limited to iPhone. Apple splits the cost of the iPhone across 12 or 24 months.

Apple may also chose the bundle the subscription with Apple One, which includes Apple TV+, Apple Music, iCloud+, News+ and Fitness+ for a monthly fee. It is said to be offering the subscription on devices, via the App Store and its website.

Bloomberg claims Apple is still developing the service, and it is expected to arrive later in 2022 or 2023. It could also be pushed back further or cancelled altogether.

Apple may offer it for other devices, such as iPad models or Mac.
