Apple to update iPhone 13 Pro with option to disable macro mode
- A software update later this fall will bring the option to disable automatically switching to macro photography on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max.
- Early reviews have found that you can’t prevent macro mode from turning on in close-up videos and photos.
iPhone 13 Pro models have are capable of taking close-up macro photos and videos, focusing at 2-centimeters to bring out the smallest details in objects. This is done through the new Ultra Wide lens, and also supports getting up close when recording video.
However, multiple reviewers have pointed out that the camera on the iPhone 13 Pros will automatically switch to macro mode when you shoot at close distances. Apple says:
A new setting will be added in a software update this fall to turn off automatic camera switching when shooting at close distances for macro photography and video.
Early reviews of the iPhone 13 Pros have been positive. Macro capabilities of the new devices are superb, and capable of pulling out small details in objects, as shown by the above photos from Ben Bajarin on Twitter.
