iPhone 13 name revealed in alleged packaging leak
- Photos of alleged iPhone packaging suggest Apple will use the ‘iPhone 13’ name for the 2021 models
- This year’s model has been referred to as both the ‘iPhone 13’ and ‘iPhone 12S’, with some leakers claiming the new models are an S-upgrade
- Images similar to this have emerged in the past and can easily be faked
If correct, the iPhone 13 will follow last year’s iPhone 12 lineup. While the legitimacy of the image is unknown, DuanRui shared photos of packaging stickers ahead of the launch of the iPhone 12.
The iPhone 13 name has been quite controversial, with some referring to the number as unlucky. Multiple, low-accuracy leakers on social media also shared references to ‘iPhone 12s' as the branding for the 2021 lineup, describing the new devices as an ‘S-upgrade’.
Apple last used the ‘S’ branding with the iPhone Xs in 2018, which launched with an identical design to the iPhone X, and only contained iterative improvements. Its use of the suffix has differed over the years but was commonly used with the devices that followed the original iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 models.
The iPhone 13 lineup will bring a smaller notch, new colors, camera improvements, larger batteries, an A15 Bionic chip, a 1TB storage option for the Pro models, and much more. Pre-orders could open on Friday 17th September, following an event on September 14th, if recent rumors are correct.
