Apple’s iPhone 13 mini will still go ahead, new rumors say

According to renowned leaker and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will indeed release an iPhone 13 mini later this year.
Last year’s iPhone 12 mini allegedly underperformed on the market compared to analysts and investors sales expectations.
The phone should remain the same size as last year's 12 mini, with little to no change to the overall design.

After seemingly poor sales of the iPhone 12 mini since its unveiling in 2020, reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (reliability: 80.95%) has reiterated that Apple will continue with a similar strategy for their iPhone 13 or iPhone 12s lineup in 2021.

That is, he revealed that Apple will keep the same four device lineup — with two more affordable models in two sizes, and two premium devices with cutting-edge features.

The new 2H21 iPhones will be the same as iPhone 12 series, with four models and the same screen sizes. All new 2H21 iPhones support the Lightning connector and no portless design. — Ming-Chi Kuo

iPhone 13 mini — 5.4” display
iPhone 13 — 6.1” display
iPhone 13 Pro — 6.1” display
iPhone 13 Pro Max — 6.7” display

Interestingly, it was recently revealed that the iPhone 12 mini didn’t perform as badly as analysts had previously stated. According to analytics data, the iPhone mini sold the fewest units of the iPhone 12 lineup last year. However, the sales numbers for iPhone 12 mini were still impressive — with a recent report from Omdia Group claiming the device shipped as many as 14.5 million units in 2020. This would make it the 10th most popular smartphone in the world last year, according to the publication. Of course, Apple no longer reports unit sales for any of its products — so we’ll likely never actually know how many iPhone 12 mini units Apple has sold in comparison to the rest of the iPhone 12 lineup.

Regardless, the performance of the device has been no small feat — and it’s one that makes the decision to ship a iPhone 13 mini fairly self-explanatory. However, analysts and customers agree that Apple will need to work on the battery performance of their cheapest flagship iPhone in order for it to truly succeed in the marketplace. Customers often point to the poor battery life as the main drawback of the device.
