New reports say Apple Glasses are unlikely in 2021
- Apple Glasses have reportedly passed their first phase of development, according to multiple sources.
- However, it may be increasingly unlikely that the device will be ready for a 2021 release date, as was previously reported. Apple Glasses might not be unveiled until late 2022.
- One of the designs supports AR and VR, while the other is AR-only.
Mark Gurman (reliability: 84.38%) reported that Apple has been working on two different designs for their glasses. One of the designs supports AR and VR, while the other is AR-only. The first prototype allegedly looks similar to Facebook’s Oculus Quest headset, while the other is being designed as a “lightweight” device. One of the earliest references to Apple’s smart glasses project goes all the way back to 2006, when the company filed a patent for a head-mounted device. At the time, it was deemed to be a potential Google Glass rival. We all know how that turned out...
While we have been hearing rumors about a pair of Apple AR glasses for quite a while, it is to be noted that Apple has been working on it very cautiously. The glasses should meet customers' expectations, and so far Apple has not been able to meet their own standards for weight and battery life. This seems pretty reasonable because Apple wouldn’t want its futuristic glasses to be a failure in the market.
