iPhone 13 to reportedly feature Wi — Fi 6E technology
- According to DigiTimes, this year’s iPhones will feature the newly announced Wi-Fi 6E standard.
- Wi-Fi 6E is similar to Wi-Fi 6 but includes a 6GHz band.
Since the iPhone 11 lineup was released in 2019, all new iPhones have included Wi-Fi 6 support. Compared to the older Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6 included speed and security improvements. Compared to that change, however, Wi-Fi 6E will be a much less drastic change.According to DigiTimes, Wi-Fi 6E compatibility will become the new standard in the coming years, and Apple will include it in the iPhone 13 lineup. It will also reportedly be included in upcoming Android flagships.
Apple is set to incorporate Wi-Fi 6E technology into its new iPhones for this year, and the technology is expected to become a standard feature of both iOS and Android smartphones in 2022, the sources said.
This DigiTimes report also says that LiDAR sensors will remain exclusive to the Pro iPhone models, and face ID will continue to be the default authentication method, rather than adding back touch ID.
As new iPhones will continue to adopt 3D face ID sensors for general models and ToF LiDAR scanners for Pro series, the three GaAS players will also see their third-quarter revenues further bolstered by VCSEL chips demand for the sensing solutions, the sources said.
The iPhone 13 lineup is expected to be a smaller upgrade compared to last year’s iPhones, and will again feature four models: the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. These devices are expected to be unveiled by Apple this fall.
