Apple to expand their MagSafe charger lineup with 2 or 3 new models next year
- Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple is looking to expand their wireless charger range by 2 or 3 new models in 2021.
- There is not a lot of information available at the moment, but Kuo is a reliable source (80.95%).
- We also expect that Apple will want to demonstrate the unique advantages that portless charging will bring.
There is not a lot of information available at the moment, but we have to keep in mind that Kuo was one of the first to announce Apple’s plans to make an AirPower replacement that became the MagSafe Duo - so his words are very reliable. He also has a reliability score of 80.95% according to our own tracking statistics, available here.
These claims pretty much debunk any chance of AirPower making a comeback, since it looks like Apple finally found a worthy replacement that doesn’t have the drawbacks and limitations that AirPower had. As you may recall, AirPower was never released due to problems with overheating and not being able to use the Apple Watch Nightstand Mode properly.
Our take: MagSafe technology on the iPhone has opened up the possibilities for charging designs and form factors significantly. With the addition of magnets, you could imagine that Apple could theoretically introduce wireless chargers with designs similar to those we have been seeing recently from third-parties. We also expect that Apple will want to demonstrate the unique advantages that portless charging will bring, as it is expected that Apple will unveil at least one portless iPhone in late 2021.
