iPhone SE with 5G still expected to arrive next year
- Apple is expected to update the iPhone SE in 2022.
- The budget device will keep the same design but see performance improvements.
The new iPhone SE will be the first budget device from Apple to support 5G, following the introduction of the new cellular technology in the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro lineup last year. It will also get an updated processor with improved performance.

Kuo says that the new 2022 iPhone SE will support 5G, and it will include processor updates. The device will be positioned as the "cheapest 5G iPhone ever." The most affordable iPhone with 5G right now is the iPhone 12 mini, so presumably the iPhone SE will be a good deal more affordable than the $699 price point of that device.
However, it's important to note that Kuo also noted that the device is likely to look similar to the current iPhone SE. The current model, introduced in April 2020, has a 4.7-inch LCD display with Touch ID, a single 12MP rear camera and A13 Bionic chip. Apple won’t introduce a redesigned model until 2023 at the earliest, where it could use a hole-punch camera and Touch ID.
