Apple’s focus shifts to clamshell foldable iPhone, rumors say
- Apple is now reportedly focused on the flip-style foldable iPhone, which mimics the classic “flip phone” design, according to Jon Prosser.
- Prosser also stated that this new folding iPhone will come in "fun colours.”
- Later, Prosser said that the new iPhone Flip is not likely to launch in 2022.
According to Prosser's sources, Apple is now focused on the flip-style iPhone, which mimics the classic “flip phone” design with modern display technology. The iPhone is being referred to as the ‘iPhone Flip.’
Interestingly, Prosser also stated that this new folding iPhone will come in "fun colours", like the iPhone XR and iPhone 12 ranges. This is significant because it suggests that this will not be marketed as a professional handset, but rather as a lower-end iPhone. Apple’s higher-end products are famously limited when it comes to color choices.
This comes as a surprise due to the fact the technology is still relatively expensive to produce. As we’ve seen from other foldable phones on the market, the prices have been anything but mass-market. The high price of other foldable phones seems to be a deterrent to people when purchasing a new handset.
Unfortunately, Prosser said in his video that the new iPhone Flip will likely not launch in 2022, and he later emphasised that it may never launch at all. However, it's important to note that the company has been granted various patents related to foldable devices.
