New Mac mini and high — end iMac coming in 2022
- Apple will continue to update its Mac lineup with custom silicon over the next year.
- The company isn’t expected to meet its two year deadline for transitioning from Intel chips to Apple Silicon.
- A Mac Pro refresh with Intel Xeon chips is coming soon.
Now, new information shared by Bloomberg suggests that it will take slightly longer to fully remove Intel chips from the Mac lineup, and that Apple has new pro-based devices planned for later next year.
In 2022, Apple is planning a redesigned high-end iMac to replace the current 27-inch model, and will “fully transition by the end of the year”. Gurman also expects a more powerful Mac mini “soon after that”.
Apple is still on track to announce new 14-inch and 16-inch M1X MacBook Pro models in the next few months, which are expected to have a redesigned chassis, mini-LED display, the addition of an HDMI port and SD card slot, and see the return of MagSafe.
A redesigned MacBook Air will also come in 2022 and use the new MagSafe charging as well.
Gurman also confirmed that Apple will refresh the current Mac Pro with new Intel Ice Lake Xeon CPUs, but didn’t share any more information about an Apple Silicon refresh. The new Mac Pro is expected to retain the same design.
