According to Ming-Chi Kuo (reliability: 80.95%), Apple is predicted to incorporate a Mini-LED display in the 2022 MacBook Air. Currently, it sports a 13.3 inch Retina Display with a standard LED backlight.

The incorporation of mini-LED on the MacBook will be a huge improvement over the current display, with better contrast ratios, deeper blacks, and much higher peak brightness. The MacBook Pro lineup is also likely to gain it as well, as it wouldn’t make much sense for the Air to have a better display.

From MacRumors:

Mini-LED display technology will bring a signifiant improvement in MacBook display quality, allowing for a thinner, lighter design while offering benefits like improved wide color gamut, high contrast and dynamic range, and truer blacks.

Mini-LED was first introduced along with the 12.9 inch iPad Pro that released in April. Mini-LED displays feature a backlight consisting of more than 10,000 mini-LEDs grouped into 2596 local dimming zones. Mini-LED displays have deeper blacks, get significantly brighter, and do not suffer from burn-in, although they do not have as good of a contrast ratio as OLEDs, and have blooming issues.
