Inside Apple Park: Apple's $5 Billion Dollar Headquarters

Apple's new headquarters, named Apple Park, is an impressive sight with its giant ring-shaped building sitting on 176 acres of land in Cupertino, California. The project was first announced by Steve Jobs in 2006 and construction began in 2014. The campus cost an estimated $5 billion, but Apple's worth and estimated profits justify the expense. The campus comprises multiple buildings, with 80% of the land being green space. More than 9,000 drought-resistant trees have been planted on the grounds, along with walking and running trails, and 1,000 bicycles are available to commute between the buildings. The roof of the ring building boasts one of the world's largest rooftop solar farms that generate up to 17 megawatts of power, enough to meet 75% of the campus’s energy demand during peak times. The rest of the energy needs are met by on-site fuel cells powered by biofuel or natural gas. The building incorporates large glass panes, which make it bright and allow natural sunlight into the building.

The spaceship also features a base isolation system, which is made up of 692 stainless steel plates, that allows the building to shift up to four feet in any given direction without causing any structural damage. The campus has an underground parking area and road network, hidden from sight to maximize green space. There are seven cafes on the campus, and the largest has three levels with enough seating for three thousand people. There is also a 1000-seat auditorium, known as the Steve Jobs Theater, which is located atop a hill on the campus and has a 42-foot high glass elevator.
