Google Chrome to get first major icon update in eight years
- The first new Chrome icon since 2014 will be available in the coming months.
- There are different versions of the icon for all operating systems.
The logo was last updated in 2014 when it was flattened from the previous three-dimensional version. The new design is very similar, but has brighter colors and no more shadows. Google has also refined “the proportions” and added a “subtle gradient to the icon”.
Google Chrome on iOS, Android and Windows will be updated with the standard logo shown in the image above. On ChromeOS, the logo will appear with even brighter colors to “match the looks of the rest of the system icons”. macOS users will see a 3D version of the logo that closely follows the design language of macOS Big Sur and macOS Monterey.
Beta versions of Chrome for iOS will also have a unique design similar to TestFlight, while the unstable versions on Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS will display a channel banner in the corner (e.g. 'beta' or 'dev').
The new Google Chrome icons will be rolling out to all platforms and devices in the coming months, coinciding with the release of Chrome 100. They are available from this week on the Canary build.
