Apple today announced that it has acquired Primephonic, a popular classical music streaming service, and will be folding it into Apple Music. Current Primephonic services will be discontinued on September 7th, and a new standalone classical music app will be released to Apple Music subscribers as soon as next year.

Apple today announced it has acquired Primephonic, the renowned classical music streaming service that offers an outstanding listening experience with search and browse functionality optimized for classical, premium-quality audio, handpicked expert recommendations, and extensive contextual details on repertoire and recordings.

Apple plans to integrate current Primephonic playlists and exclusive content into Apple Music, with subscribers also being given “better browsing and search capabilities by composer and by repertoire, detailed displays of classical music metadata, plus new features and benefits.”

Current Primephonic subscribers can continue to use the app as usual until the 7th when they will be given more information and a 6-month free trial for Apple Music. The Primephonic app has already been removed from the App Store and the Google Play Store.
