iOS 19 Development Already Underway: What’s Next for Apple?

Apple's development team is already hard at work on iOS 19, macOS 16, watchOS 12, and visionOS 3, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The next batch of operating systems, codenamed "Luck" for iOS 19, "Cheer" for macOS 16, "Nepali" for watchOS 12, and "Discovery" for visionOS 3, are being prepped for a 2025 release. This might sound early, but it's right on schedule for Apple.

Despite iOS 18 and its companions not yet hitting the public, Apple’s internal gears are turning as usual. The company needs to ensure that next year’s hardware products have the software ready for thorough testing. It's a cycle that ensures seamless integration and keeps everything ticking over smoothly. Photo via Apple Inc. // iOS 18 introduced Apple Intelligence, a revamped the Control Center, improvements to widgets, a redesigned Safari with enhanced privacy features, and updates to FaceTime and Messages further enhanced usability and security on iOS devices. Details on the features of these upcoming updates are scarce, as you might expect at this stage. But given Apple's track record, we can anticipate a mix of innovative enhancements and tweaks that refine the user experience. Gurman’s newsletter hints that specifics will emerge over time, likely through the usual leaks and rumors.

In the meantime, the current focus is on iOS 18, macOS 15 Sequoia, watchOS 11, and visionOS 2. Developers are diving into the second beta of iOS 18, with public testers set to join soon. Apple’s latest updates promise to bring a slew of new features, particularly around the company’s new AI initiative, Apple Intelligence.

Apple Intelligence is poised to enhance various aspects of the user experience, from Siri's capabilities to image creation and communication tools. The forthcoming iOS 18 update will also introduce more home screen customization options, an updated Control Center, and a revamped Photos app.

Interestingly, Gurman also mentioned that the Vision Pro headset might get Apple Intelligence as soon as next year. This aligns with the company's phased approach to rolling out its AI features. However, the full integration into visionOS 3 might not happen immediately, given the technical and infrastructure challenges Apple is navigating.

For now, as we await the public releases of iOS 18 and its companions, the tech world will be watching closely for any hints about what "Luck," "Cheer," "Nepali," and "Discovery" have in store for us in 2025.
